It isn't often that I point out other blogs or articles that have travel tips - mainly because I have my own book for sales for under $10 providing scads of tips and travel advice that pretty much covers a multitude of topics and situations. But when a great post or article appears that I think the public would benefit from (even if it is a travel tips type article where some if not many of the tips are in my book as well) I will offer it as a free resource.
My criteria for pointing out such articles and posts is that they be from reliable sources and I have found the major papers and media outlets (Wall St Journal, LA or NY Times, Peter Greenberg, Chris Elliott, et al) almost always provide good advice. Here is no exception.
The following article from MSNBC titled Hotel Safety Tips is an excellent article. It is no coincidence that I included some of the same advice in my book (make 2 copies of passports and travel papers when traveling, check out the physical surroundings of your hotel ahead of making a reservation, take precautions when leaving hotel rooms, etc) and this article poiints these out. But it is more centered on hotel safety so I offer it as one of what I put on my 'To Do' list when planning a trip, especially an overseas trip.
